Private Pilot License (PPL)
The Private Pilot License (PPL)
The Private Pilot License is the gateway for anyone wishing to pursue aviation; it is the license that can be built onto with additional ratings allowing you to fly at night or even in the clouds...
With training at Glasgow Prestwick International Airport, you will benefit from our highly experienced Instructors and fleet of aircraft available.
Students will initially begin to learn the basics of how an aircraft takes flight with a practical approach to controlling and piloting an aircraft; you will learn how to climb, descend and make turns before moving onto learning how to take-off and land the aircraft.
Once you are ready your instructor will send you 'solo' yourself and you will experience one of the most unforgettable moments in your life.
You will then learn about Navigation from planning, air traffic control, emergency procedures and land at other airfields culminating in a 'cross-country' flight of 150 Nautical Miles before doing the same yourself; allowing you to build confidence at the controls.
Tests & Examinations
Alongside the practical elements of the Private Pilot License course, you will learn and then undertake nine examinations including: Air Law, Operational Procedures, Human Performance and Limitations, General Navigation, Principles of Flight, Meteorology, Flight Planning and Performance, Communications and Aircraft General Knowledge.
For a practical assessment of your skills you training will end with a full 'PPL Skills Test' with a CAA Flight Examiner where you will demonstrate the skills you have learned.
After you've gained your license you can then hire an aircraft or undertake further training such as a Night Rating or learn to fly on Instruments.
